The Village of Lincolnshire is located in southeast Lake County, approximately 34 miles from downtown Chicago. The Village encompasses 4.58 square miles and is generally bordered on the north and northwest by Vernon Hills; on the south and southwest by Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove; and on the east by Bannockburn and Lake Forest. Lincolnshire is characterized by higher than average household earnings; highly educated residents; and a diverse population encompassing all ages, occupations and incomes. A growing population of middle to high income households live within a three mile radius of the Village.
Lincolnshire is located in Vernon Township, and is one of the most desirable living and business environments in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village’s population was 237 at the time of its incorporation in 1957. In 1990, Lincolnshire’s population totaled 4,930, and was comprised of 1,670 households with a median household income of $97,324. In 2000, the population totaled 6,108, and was comprised of 2,134 households with a median household income of $134,259. Based on the 2010 Census, Lincolnshire’s current population 7,275 residents.
Lincolnshire is located within the Chicago metropolitan area, and is highly accessible via the regional highway system. The Village is bordered on the east by I-94 (Tri-State Tollway), which has a full interchange at Route 22. Milwaukee Avenue and several other regional arterials pass through or near the community. O’Hare Airport is 19 miles away, Midway Airport is 44 miles away, and Milwaukee’s Mitchell Field is 57 miles away. Commuter train service is convenient. The Milwaukee Road line or METRA in Deerfield, Highland Park and Vernon Hills gets train commuters to downtown Chicago in about 44-55 minutes.
Largely due to its office, industrial, hospitality, and commercial/retail sectors, Lincolnshire enjoys a strong and diverse economic base. The Village is home to a number of office and business parks, including the Lincolnshire Corporate Center, Lincolnshire Business Center, Tri-State Office Park, and Millbrook Office Park, which house such prominent employers as AON Hewitt, Walgreens, HydraForce and Quill. Together, these corporate facilities encompass several million square feet of office and industrial space and supply thousands of jobs, bringing the Village’s daytime population to 25,000.
Lincolnshire is home to six hotels: Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Hampton Inn and Suites, Staybridge Suites, and SpringHill Suites, which provide ample accommodation and wonderful recreational opportunities. Marriott’s Lincolnshire Resort, is a 170-acre complex located in the heart of Lincolnshire, consisting of a 390-room hotel; four restaurants and lounges; live theater, 18-hole championship golf course; and more than 40,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
The Village is proud to be a regional shopping, dining and entertainment destination, featuring several dynamic commercial developments and a wide array of fine restaurants striving to satisfy all customers. The Village Green of Lincolnshire, located at the northeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Olde Half Day Road, provides a unique experience with many specialty shops, boutiques, and eateries, including LaBeaute Studio and Spa, Egg Harbor Café, and Eddie Merlot’s. The CityPark of Lincolnshire, a mixed-use retail, entertainment, and office development at the southwest corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Aptakisic Road, features Wildfire and Champps restaurants, a 21-theatre Regal Cinema and an IMAX theater, and Viper Alley live music venue. The Village’s newest lifestyle center, Lincolnshire Commons, situated immediately north of the CityPark, has a desirable national and regional tenant mix, consisting of DSW Shoes, White House|Black Market, Joseph A. Even though Lincolnshire has been the location for large scale business development, it is also a highly desirable residential community. It offers a variety of housing choices, including single-family, townhouse and condominiums. Single family residential areas are protected from commercial and office areas, and are nestled among parks, forest preserve lands and designated open spaces.
High School students attend Adlai E. Stevenson High School, on the Village’s west side. Stevenson is the only public high school in the state to have earned four blue Ribbon Awards for Excellence from the United States Department of Education. The school offers more than 200 courses, including 20 Advanced Placement courses. Stevenson, which has a current enrollment of 4,100 students, is consistently ranked in the top 10 of all state public schools in Prairie State Achievement Examination scores, and has been cited as one of the top high schools in the country by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report magazines.

The Village adopted a Council-Manager from of government in 1976, whereby the Mayor and six Trustees are elected at-large to set policy and approve agreements and expenditures. A Village Manager is appointed by the Board of Trustees to assume responsibility for day-to-day operations. Lincolnshire is a Home Rule municipality.
